Their freedom of speech is not our obligation to listen.
It's as simple as that.
And I have no power to force others not to listen to the same things I
refuse to listen to. I can advocate it, but ultimately the choice is up
to them. "Censorship" is something else entirely: a single gatekeeper
who blocks access to information, /contrary/ to the wishes of the
reader. But I am not any sort of gatekeeper, I don't own Usenet, and the
only way anyone can filter the same things I do is if they voluntarily
/choose/ to do so, because they happen to share the opinions that I
publicly advocate.
That's no different than a politician campaigning then winning votes.
Is that "peer pressure"? Is it "censorship"?
No, it's just the opposition losing the vote, then whining about it.
But in this case the "vote" is not between politicians, it's between
individuals who value their personal liberty vs. a bunch of corporate
shills trying to take it away from them, with propaganda that supports
criminal monopolists. Then they even have the gall to suggest we
shouldn't be allowed the freedom to choose not to listen to their
propaganda, and our refusal to do so is tantamount to "censorship".
It's hysterical.
Gee, I wonder why anyone would choose not to listen to corporate shills?
Probably for the same reason they'd choose to filter commercial spam, or
choose not read Mein Kampf, or choose not to attend a Tea Party rally.
Naturally the propagandists will whine about their propaganda campaign
being thwarted, but ultimately the fact is: they may be free to speak,
but we are not obligated to listen.
